Here are a few clips from day one with Albert Lee yesterday (Friday). I'm in the UK to work on Albert's solo album and also record the 70th birthday celebration concerts coming up next weekend.
After flying back from LA on the red-eye flight the day before, Albert was rather jet-lagged and I have to say I was pessimistic about getting much done. How wrong I was!
He sung and played with so much emotion and feeling, it was just stunning to experience. We quickly realised that we literally just had to leave the tapes (well... hard drives) running because we were witnessing a performance we were never likely to forget. Nearly everything was down first take and when I checked the material this morning I knew we had captured something very, very magical. The man was well and truly wearing his heart on his sleeve yesterday. The entire thing was also filmed for the upcoming documentary
I finished the first mix for the solo album today and it sounds absolutely awesome. To be honest, I would have had to have done something seriously wrong for it to sound any other way! I can't wait to get stuck into the next 2 mixes tomorrow.
